ABOUT LAKE BOLAC HOTEL & BREWERY
The Lake Bolac Hotel, a historic landmark in Western Victoria, Australia, boasts a rich and fascinating history dating back to its initial construction in 1856. Originally a modest shanty built by James Brown, it served the local community in various unique capacities throughout its existence. The initial shanty was replaced by a wooden hotel, which was then superseded in 1862 by the current bluestone structure.
Situated prominently on the Glenelg Highway, the Lake Bolac Hotel has been a central hub of activity and community life. Its walls have witnessed the hotel's transformation from a simple tavern to a multifunctional establishment.
Over the years, the hotel has intriguingly served as a church, a morgue, and even a barber's shop,
reflecting the versatile needs of the local community.
Today, the Bluestone Lake Bolac Hotel stands as a beautifully renovated piece of history. It remains an integral part of the local farming and sporting community, drawing in both locals and tourists traveling along the busy highway.
The hotel offers a range of facilities, including a large public bar with an inviting open fireplace and an entertainment area featuring a pool table and jukebox. Additionally, two adjoining dining rooms provide the perfect setting for
meals and private functions.
The well-equipped commercial kitchen caters to the culinary needs of guests, while a huge covered outdoor beer garden area offers a relaxed ambiance. The recent addition of a large garden bar, complete with festive lighting
and a shipping container bar, adds a modern twist to the historic venue. Furthermore, the old stables are currently undergoing renovation to become a performance space, promising to enhance the hotel's entertainment offerings.
Overall, the Lake Bolac Hotel is not just a place for great cold beers, fine food, and entertainment.
It is a beautifully preserved piece of history, standing as a testament to the resilience and adaptability
of the local community over the years.
THE BREWERY
Our aspiration for the future is to restore and renovate the old bluestone stables at the rear of the premises
into a lovely micro brewery, this of course takes time, money and commitment. For now we have our own
beer label the infamous Bolac Beer brewed for us offsite at Burra Brewing Co in Korumburra
BAR & DINING ROOM
Bar
A Bar that keeps the tradition of a country counter meal alive and with the crackle of a fire burning in the evening adds to welcoming atmosphere. Stand at the bar and swap stories over a drink with a friend or sit outside at the tables where you can watch the evening sun disappear over the hills. In keeping with the tradition of a country hotel a roaring fire is lit on the cold winter nights where the flames cast flickering shadows across the room.
Dining Room
Behind the bluestone walls of the hotel lies warm friendly main bar, a cosy dining room and a large airy function room. During the cold winter months open fires spread their warmth and glow in each of the rooms whilst in the main bar the crackle of the fire provides the reassurance of an old friend to accompany a quiet ale.
The menu is extensive showcasing traditional country pub options along with chef specials including catering for vegetarian and gluten free options
